When you are interested in satisfying the palate of a loved one, choosing an edible gift basket is a great way to brighten their day. Since the number of items available for an edible gift basket is endless, the possibilities of presentation, theme and final creation can be quite exciting. Some gift givers choose to shower their loved ones with a few of their favorite things, while others like to surprise and challenge the norm by giving them something they are not accustomed to.

Soups & Chili Mixes

There are many great get-well gift baskets offering a variety of soup and/or chili mixes to warm the body. Tons of available items feature healthy, low-fat alternatives to a sugar-filled explosion of treats. Some of the soup options you may encounter include: split pea, minestrone, creamy potato, leek, dried bean, lentil, and of course, chicken noodle soup. As for chili mixes, a popular brand is the white chili variety, which often calls for the addition of boneless, skinless chicken breast. Other gift baskets centered on mixes include cornbread, muffin and bread creations, which are often accompanied by jam, jelly, homemade preserves or whipped honey.

Fruit

When you think of a gift basket, one of the first varieties to pop into your head may include fruit, including apples, oranges and pears. Today, the items of a typical fruit arrangement have expanded beyond the common fruit bowl on the table and include delicacies, such as pineapples, mangos, kiwis and papayas. Sometimes, nuts accompany these types of gift baskets, both as a snack and decoration.

Another way to present a fruit basket is through variety, offering a wide-range of goodies to choose from, such as cheese, crackers, trail mix, sausages, and smoked meats. For those who wish to avoid the potential of a spoiled fruit basket, there are other options like dried fruit, which allows gift givers to present a colorful arrangement of healthy treats, such as dried cherries, apples, apricots, pears, and pineapple.

Sweet Treats & Snacks

A gift basket filled with an array of snacks is bound to have many items of interest to anyone receiving the tasty gesture. Some baskets focus strictly on sweet things like cookies and candy, while others present items that could very well fill you up (assorted crackers, cheeses, nuts, pretzels, trail mix and popcorn). One of the most popular sugary gift basket themes includes anything chocolate, such as chocolate-covered pretzels and nuts. Gourmet chocolate bars and truffles are also a hit. To increase variety, try mixing and matching dark, milk and white assortments of chocolate treats.
